Word as Type "Ulysses"
In this project I had to use a phrase that would take the shape of the thing it referenced. I decided to do this design of Ulysses from Fallout New Vegas with a phrase that was attributed to him. Ulysses' quote is as follows, "The day I set my flag down it will be over my body or over a nation I believe in." I had made two variants of the design with one being just plain white text on a black background and another with the texture of a drawing I found of Ulysses. Overall, I wanted to emphasize the feeling of being a rebel with a cause in using the phrase and Ulysses to combine them both into a single design.
Once upon a time phrase
In this project I was given the phrase, "Once upon a time," and told to turn it into a design. So I brainstormed and decided to take inspiration from my last name, which is moon in Spanish. I started making the design in a few sketches and refining it until I got the final product. I decided to add some stars for a sky feeling and to add to the fairytale tone of the design. Lastly, I decided to put it through photoshop and added a background of a mountain and a sun set sky.
Online Postcard
This goal of this project was to treat websites on the internet as actual places that you could visit, and send postcards from them. So I decided to pick Netflix. At the start I knew I wanted to use the common phrase, "Netflix and chill," to illustrate the website as a relaxing location to visit. I then worked on the type and went about giving it a sort of old school 1970s cinema type of feeling with vibrant colors. I then overplayed some textured paper over the phrase to give it the presence of being from an older time. I went on to add other elements of the postcard to emphasize the film aspect of Netflix, that being the old camera image as well as the cinema curtains and rolls of film.
As for the back of the postcard I decided to make it more simple since a person needs the majority of the postcard space to write whatever message or correspondence. So the only elements I decided to put in are the letter "N" in the word Netflix since that letter has already come to represent the service. Finally, I added in the whole word Netflix at the top of the postcard along with where you put your stamp only it has the old cinema camera design before you do.
Monogram
The goal of this project was to design a monogram which is the initials of a person's name. I chose my own name to make the design. At first I sketched out what would appear around the initials, and I ended up creating a sort of ring with a floral design on the inside. I then began work on the design with the idea in mind of making the two letters appear as one. The two letters would make the "M" while the last leg of the letter would represent the letter "L". The various shapes of the ring would then overlap and underlap some parts of the letters to give it a more three dimensional look. I put the design into photoshop where I added a silver texture the ring as well as some highlights on its edges. Lastly, I did a variant of the original design where the letter "L" is more apparent.
New word
The goal of this design project was to take two words and put them together to create an entirely different one. I had chosen the words ecstasy and clarity and made them into the word Ecstarity. I designed the type to be connected and wispy at the same time; I added in the final touches of shadows along some of the letters. Finally I put the design in photoshop and had it placed above a photo of a Buddhist statue with birds flying overhead to really give out the feeling of the new word.
